Bus

Shenyang had 254 bus routes by the end of 2016, including 34 new and adjusted ones which added 164.8 kilometers to the routes’ total length, which was 4,711.5 km. The city had 5,444 buses, 1,360 of which were new and upgraded and powered by new and clean energy. There were 43 electronic bus signs for pilot use. The total number of individual bus trips that year was 1 billion.

Taxis

Shenyang was home to 24,000 taxis by the end of 2015. The flag-down fare was eight yuan ($1.27) and after 10 pm, nine yuan, for the first three kilometers. After that, one yuan was added for every 550 meters, and if the trip was over 15 km, for every 370 meters. Also, passengers needed to pay another one yuan as a fuel surcharge.

Subway

Shenyang's Subway No.1 began working on Sept 27, 2010, making Shenyang the seventh city in the Chinese mainland to have a subway, after Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Nanjing, and the first in Northeast China.

Now Shenyang's subways have extended their operation on a regular basis for the convenience of late-night passengers.

So far, subway lines Nos.1 and 2 have run 5.96 million km per train and have handled 299.18 million individual trips.

Modern trams

By the end of 2015, Shenyang had four tram routes that covered a total length of 60 km, connecting the Shenyang International Exhibition Center, Taoxian International Airport, Shenyang South Rail Station, Shenyang National Games Village, the Operation Center of National Games, the Olympic Sports Center, the new district administrative center, and Shenfu New Town. Via transportation hubs such as the Olympic Sports Center and the 21th Century Building, the trams are perfectly linked with the subway and bus routes.

Airport

Shenyang Taoxian International Airport (IATA: SHE) is a national civil B class first-level airport, an important air transport hub in Northeast China, and an airport shared by multiple cities. It is one of the eight regional hub airports in China according to the CAAC.

The construction the Shenyang Taoxian airport went through three phases the first of which ended with the airport’s official opening on April 16, 1989.

The second phase construction (expansion project) started in April 1999 and the new terminal was opened on December 1, 2001. The third phase expansion started in April 2011, was checked and accepted by the civil aviation industry on July 31, 2013, and began operations on August 15 of that year. Shenyang Airport is now a modern airport ranked first both in scale and guaranteed service in the Northeast.

The airport is expected to serve 25 million passengers, handle 400,000 tons of cargo and mail as well as 210,000 aircraft operations per year by 2020.The numbers will then grow into 70 million passengers, 1.1 million tons of cargo and mail, and 51,000 aircraft operations annually by 2040.

In 2011, tens of millions of people were transported through the airport. In 2015, Taoxian international airport handed 98,500 aircraft operations, 12.68 million passengers, and 14,200 tons of cargo and mail. In 2020, the numbers are expected to rise to 20 million passengers on flights to more than 110 cities, including 85 domestic ones, or  35% of all domestic airline destination cities. Shenyang Airport transports passengers to nearly all the domestic airports handling over 2 million passengers (exceptions are Dongsan Province and Lhasa). The airport will eventually be home base for companies with 70 aircraft.
